Women’s Rising Star Nominee – Round 11

(pictured right)

Women’s Round Eleven Rising Star nominee

Name: Elissa Rhodes

Club: Shellharbour Suns

Position: Half Back Flank

Junior Club:  None

Favourite activity to do outside of football: Spending time with friends and family.

What is one thing that we don’t know about this Rising Star that they are well known for around the club? Elissa is the hardest worker in the team. She is always looking for ways to improve and never settles for where she is currently at. During running drills when she has completed her sets, she will run over to her team mates and help get them thru to completion.  Elissa has earned this nomination from her body of work for the entire year. She has not missed a training session all year . I give her a goal to go away and work on, and she comes back a week later much improved. Her attitude and passion is first class and is a favourite of her team mates.

Elissa was always a great swimmer and runner at school. In Kindy she got beaten and said to her parents I’m never going lose again. She won the next 6 district cross country titles in a row.

What role do they play for the club both on and off the field? Elissa is new to footy and has been keen to learn and be the best that she can be, on the field she is a team player and will do what it takes to get the job done. Her eagerness and thirst for self-improvement rubs off on all around her . She is vital to the teams future as it is personalities like Elissa’s that  breeds success and creates a positive influence

The night before the game what will they most likely be doing?  Checking to see what position she is playing and then asking her brother Jack how to best play that position. She will then watch the AFL game on the Friday night and study how the same positioned players execute their role.

Do they have any pre-game superstitions? Due to her extreme focus, its best that her family leave her alone. She has a pre-set playlist of music to listen to pre-game (I’m thinking eye of the tiger is on that list?)

Reason for nomination this round:  Elissa has earned this nomination due to her great game off the Half back flank against the Saints. She repelled numerous attacks into the Back line and delivered to her team mates which resulted in Goals being saved and also goals being scored for her team.

Club quote on  Nomination: Elissa’s game on the weekend was a reward for all of the hard work that she has put in. This has resulted in a career high number of possessions for Elissa. Her ability to read the play is growing every week and this allowed her to negate many Saints attacks into our back line. Elissa has earned this nomination from her body of work for the entire year. She has not missed a training session all year and is always asking how can she improve. I give her a goal to go away and work on and she comes back a week later much improved. Her attitude and passion is first class and is a favourite of her team mates.
