Swans and GIANTS head to Wollongong for NEAFL
The NEAFL is coming to Wollongong this Saturday as the Sydney Swans take on the GIANTS in a blockbuster Round 14 event.
Playing at North Dalton Park at 12pm on Saturday, both teams will likely have a number of AFL listed players in their teams, including the possibility of the Swans’ Sam Reid and Lewis Melican as they make their return from injury (team yet to be named).
Coming to Wollongong for the first time, the event will be free for all to attend and will include activities such as a fan zones from the clubs, a Youth Girls match at half-time, face painting for the kids, and time to get the autographs of the players involved.
The match will also be followed by the AFLSC Women’s local derby where the Wollongong Lions will face the Wollongong Saints at 3pm.
AFL South Coast Regional Manager, Matthew Graham says he is excited to welcome the NEAFL to Wollongong.
“We are very excited to be able to attract such a high profile football game to Wollongong to showcase the Illawarra and South Coast region,” says Graham.
“The match provides a great opportunity for the local community to come and see some elite footy action in their backyard, which doesn’t happen very often at all.
“Even more exciting is the possible selection of two local Sydney Swans Academy members for the Swans team, which highlights the local talent in the region and demonstrates the talent pathway available to local players.
“We are looking forward to showcasing the region and seeing a big crowd along to cheer on the Swans and the GIANTS.”
