Senior Men’s Representative Coach and Program Announced

AFL South Coast is pleased to announce the appointment of Rod Richards as the Men’s Representative Coach for 2019.

Rod is no stranger to the rep coaching role having fulfilled this position over the past few years.

In addition to a perfect Senior Representative Footy coaching record, Rod knows the local football scene exceptionally well and most recently coached Kiama Power to the First Grade Premiership in 2018.

League stalwart, Neville ‘Sticks’ Hickmott, will again act as the Men’s Team Manager, with the assistant coaches for the team to be confirmed in the coming week.

AFL South Coast face its toughest representative football test in many years in 2019 as we face the extremely strong AFL Hunter Central Coast in Newcastle on Saturday 18th May.

The selection panel will be in contact with Senior Club coaches over the coming weeks to discuss suitable players with a squad to be announced in the week commencing Monday 29 April.

In a change from previous years, the league will not be calling for nominations from clubs / players, but rather will select individual players to be part of the squad. Players selected will be expected to make themselves available for this program.

As a starting point, all those players who were selected in the 2018 AFL South Coast Team of the Year, who are still playing within the league, are the first players announced in the squad.

The 2018 Team of the Year players, and the first 19 selected in the extended squad include (does not include players no longer playing with AFL South Coast):

Bomaderry Tigers – Jack Boxsell, Jordan Matthews

Figtree Kangaroos – Cameron Daly, Nicholas Stacey

Kiama Power – Ben Hoctor, Ben Rawson, Ben Williams, Jack Mahony, Josh Walton, Lachlan Kirk, Nick Baggio

Northern Districts Tigers – Thomas Strong

Shellharbour City Suns – Mitchell Bates

Wollongong Bulldogs – Keegan Jenkins, Sam Schiller

Wollongong Lions – Jack Burgess, Jake Hogarth, Joshua Tier, Rohan Watson

Congratulations to this initial group of players on their selection.

Additional players will be added to this squad and advised in the next fortnight.

It is expected that all players selected in the extended squad attend training and make themselves available for this important representative fixture.

The Representative program in 2019 will be a short program involving four training sessions (likely Wednesday 1st, Wednesday 8th, Sunday 12th and Thursday 16th May).

Confirmed dates, locations and times will be advised shortly.

The final team will be announced on Monday 13, May.

Coaching announcements for the inaugural Women’s team, along with details on this program will be advised later in the week.
