EOIs Open for South Coast Representative Coach Positions

Following the Illawarra Storm’s incredibly successful 2023 tour of Northern NSW, AFL South Coast are excited to announce that all representative coaching positions have been made vacant and are now open to community nominations.

In 2023, the six Illawarra Storm representative sides brought home the Simon Smyth Cup at the Northern NSW Championships in Coffs Harbour. Additionally, the Storm nearly swept the Shoalhaven Junior Carnival, dropping just one each of the Under-15s and Under-17s Boys matches. Meanwhile, in their only tournament, Shoalhaven Juniors Under-13s swept their two fixtures against AFL Sapphire Coast at the Shoalhaven Carnival.

With senior representative football being less professionally delivered than wanted in 2023, the league was still supported by the Women’s side taking on AFL Hunter Central Coast in the off-season. Whilst the side wasn’t able to come away with the victory, their performance was exceptional, and the players represented the league with pride.

Casey White, Community Football & Competition Manager – South Coast discussed the importance of a great coach on the success of our talented representative players. “We were very fortunate in 2023 to have seven fantastic coaches and their support staff who took genuine care for the players and provided a high-quality experience for the players.”

“It is integral to the success of representative football, that we have as many things in place, as early as possible. This will allow our coaches to plan their program for the players, as well as give certainty to families that everything is in order ahead of season 2024.”

Representative coaching positions for all roles: Senior and Junior, Illawarra and Shoalhaven, are open now, and will close on Friday January 19. Applications can be made by completing the coaching form here

In addition to the coaching roles, AFL South Coast have created a Representative Coordinator position, to assist with the delivery of the representative program for 2024. The role will act as a link between AFL South Coast staff and coaches/parents, freeing up staff to receive communication from one person, and ensuring that important elements of representative football are still being delivered once the season begins.

Volunteers play a critical part of every sporting club, and AFL South Coast have decided that some additional support will allow representative football to thrive. To apply for the Representative Coordinator role, complete the application form here.

The recruitment of the representative teams will begin during pre-season, in early April, with teams to be announced in early May. Representative Football is currently scheduled for the weekend of 6/7 July with the Junior Carnival in Coffs Harbour being the 17th-19th July
